You can use AirPlay to stream TVNZ+ from your iPhone or iPad to an Apple TV or AirPlay-compatible TV. Requires iOS 15 or later.

Note: AirPlay is only available on iPhone and iPad. AirPlay to Samsung TVs is not supported.

How to use AirPlay

1. Make sure your iPhone or iPad and your TV are on the same Wi-Fi network.
2. Open the TVNZ+ app and start playing something.
3. Tap the AirPlay icon in the player controls.
4. Select your TV or Apple TV from the list.
5. The content will begin playing on your TV.

Troubleshooting

Content isn't playing

• Pause the stream, then tap play again.
• Disconnect AirPlay and reconnect.
• Exit the episode and try playing it again.
• Make sure your iPhone or iPad is running iOS 15 or later (Settings > General > About).

AirPlay keeps disconnecting — AirPlay can sometimes disconnect when moving from an ad into video content. If this happens, pause and press play again. If it drops completely, reconnect AirPlay and re-enter the episode.

AirPlay icon isn't appearing

• Check both devices are on the same Wi-Fi network.
• On Apple TV: go to Settings > AirPlay and HomeKit and make sure AirPlay is On.
• Restart your iPhone or iPad and try again.

You can cast TVNZ+ to your TV using Chromecast from the app on your iPhone, iPad, or Android device. Casting from a computer browser isn't supported.

Supported Chromecast devices

• Chromecast Generation 3 and newer — fully supported.
• Chromecast Generation 2 — supported, but some content may play at a lower video quality.
• Chromecast Generation 1 — not supported.

How to start casting

1. Make sure your phone or tablet and your Chromecast are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
2. Open the TVNZ+ app.
3. Tap the Cast icon (in the top-right corner of the screen or inside the player).
4. Select your Chromecast from the list of available devices.
5. Once connected, the Cast icon changes to show it's active.
6. Play any content to start watching on your TV.

How to stop casting

1. Tap the Cast icon in the TVNZ+ app.
2. Tap Stop Casting.

If you can't disconnect, force-quit the TVNZ+ app on your device and reopen it.
 

Troubleshooting

Can't connect to Chromecast

• Check both your device and Chromecast are on the same Wi-Fi network.
• Make sure the TVNZ+ app is up to date.
• Unplug your Chromecast from power, wait 10 seconds, then plug it back in.
• Uninstall and reinstall the TVNZ+ app on your phone or tablet.

Stuttering, freezing, or buffering while casting

• Check your internet connection is strong.
• Move your device and Chromecast closer to your router.
• Try a soft reset of your Chromecast — hold the reset button until the light flashes.
• If nothing helps, use the Chromecast troubleshooting wizard in the Google Home app.

HDMI error message — Always cast from within the TVNZ+ app. If you mirror your phone screen to the TV and then open TVNZ+, you'll see an HDMI error. The fix is to cast directly from the TVNZ+ app instead.

Can't cast from my computer — Casting from a web browser to Chromecast isn't supported. Use the TVNZ+ app on your phone or tablet to cast. Alternatively, you can connect your computer to your TV with an HDMI cable.
