TVNZ+ includes dedicated profiles for younger viewers that restrict content and simplify the experience. Parents can set these up alongside adult profiles on the same account. 

Kids profiles (ages 5–12) 

Kids profiles only show content tagged for kids — adult content isn't accessible anywhere in the app, including search. 

What's different on a Kids profile: 

• Simplified navigation with only the essentials: Home, Search, My HubList, and Profile.
• The TVNZ+ Kids logo replaces the standard branding.
• Only age-appropriate advertising is shown.
• Parents can choose whether to include PG-rated content — see Can children view PG content on Kids profiles? 

Preschool profiles (ages 2–5) 

Preschool profiles are even more restricted, showing only content specifically tagged for preschoolers. 

What's different on a Preschool profile: 

• A very simple navigation menu with only Home, Search, My HubList, and Profile.
• The TVNZ+ Preschool logo is shown.
• No advertising is shown on Preschool profiles.
• Content is limited to shows tagged 'Preschool' only. 

Are these profiles PIN-protected? 

Profile-level PIN protection is not currently available on TVNZ+. Anyone who can access the app can switch between profiles. We recommend keeping devices out of reach of younger viewers if you want to limit access to adult content.

You can manage all your profiles from the TVNZ+ app or website. Changes apply across all your devices.

Create a new profile

1. Sign in to TVNZ+ and go to the profile selection screen.
2. Select Add profile.
3. Choose a profile avatar.
4. Enter a first name (up to 40 characters).
5. Add year of birth and gender.
6. Select the profile type: Adult (default), Kids (5–12), or Preschool (2–5).
7. Select Add.

You can have up to 5 profiles on one account.

Edit a profile 

1. Go to the profile selection screen and select the pencil/edit icon on the profile you want to change.
2. Update any details — avatar, name, year of birth, gender, or profile type.
3. Select Save. 

Note: changing a profile from Adult to Kids or Preschool will hide adult content in Continue Watching and My List. Changing it back to Adult will make that content visible again.

Delete a profile 

1. Go to the profile selection screen and select the edit icon on the profile.
2. Select Delete profile.
3. Confirm when prompted — this can't be undone.

TVNZ+ profiles let everyone in your household have their own personalised viewing space. Each profile has its own watch history, My List, and content recommendations — so you always pick up right where you left off. 

How many profiles can I have? 

You can create up to 5 profiles on one TVNZ+ account. One default profile is set up when you create your account — you can add up to 4 more. 

Types of profiles 

• Adult — Full access to all TVNZ+ content. 
• Kids (ages 5–12) — A simplified, safe experience showing only content tagged for kids. You can choose whether to include PG-rated content on a Kids profile.
• Preschool (ages 2–5) — A simplified experience with only preschool-tagged content. No advertising is shown on Preschool profiles. 

Switching between profiles 

You can switch profiles at any time from the profile selection screen. On Smart TVs, you'll see a 'Who's watching?' screen when you open the app.

Content access on TVNZ+ depends on the profile type. Kids and Preschool profiles automatically restrict what content is visible throughout the entire app — including browse, search, and recommendations. 

Adult profiles 

Full access to all TVNZ+ content, including M, 16, and R-rated shows and movies. 

Kids profiles (ages 5–12) 

Only content tagged for kids is accessible. This includes:

• Shows and movies tagged as Kids content.
• PG-rated content, if you've enabled it for that profile — see Can children view PG content on Kids profiles?
• Age-appropriate advertising only. 

Preschool profiles (ages 2–5) 

Only content tagged as Preschool is accessible. Advertising is not shown on Preschool profiles. 

Classification ratings 

TVNZ+ shows New Zealand classification ratings (e.g. G, PG, M, 16, R) on content throughout the platform. These are used to determine what can be accessed on Kids and Preschool profiles. You'll also see a brief content warning at the start of videos where applicable. 

There's no parental PIN available to lock individual profiles. If you need to prevent switching, keep the device out of reach.

Parents and caregivers can choose whether PG-rated content is available on a Kids profile. It's optional and can be turned on or off at any time. 

How to turn PG content on or off

1. Go to the profile selection screen and select the edit (pencil) icon on the Kids profile.
2. Look for the PG content setting.
3. Toggle it on or off as preferred.
4. Save your changes. 

PG content is not available on Preschool profiles — only on Kids profiles (ages 5–12).

The level of advertising shown depends on the profile type: 

• Adult profiles: Standard advertising is shown.
• Kids profiles (ages 5–12): Only age-appropriate advertising is shown, in line with broadcast standards.
• Preschool profiles (ages 2–5): No advertising is shown. 

Advertising on TVNZ+ is how we keep the service free for everyone. We take care to ensure that advertising shown to younger viewers meets appropriate standards.
