Will I need to update my app before watching?
Apple and Android TVNZ+ apps – both mobile and TV will prompt you to update your TVNZ+ app before watching from mid-to-late June. You can do this whenever you next login from this time on. Other devices, such as connected TV and gaming devices will update automatically.
I can use TVNZ+ but I can’t stream any sport. There’s a message saying it’s not available on my device. What’s going on?
Sport on TVNZ+ has required the introduction of new streaming tools, including technology that protects streams from illegally being copied - a requirement in our content rights agreements. Unfortunately, Samsung 2015/16 are not compatible with these changes and so live sport streaming and replays will not be available on these devices. Sports streaming is not currently available on LG 2017 and PS4, but we are working on these end points and sport may be available in the near future on these devices. Video-on-demand content like highlights will still be available on all devices where TVNZ+ is available.
What broadband speed do I need to ensure a good viewing experience?
We recommend that you have at least a minimum of 15Mb/s download speeds to take advantage of our sports offering.
Can I download games or highlights?
No, we don’t offer a download feature on TVNZ+. You will be able to stream replays and highlights.
What functionality will be available on TVNZ+?
We’ll have a range of functionality available from launch in July, and we’ll continue to add evolve the user experience over time. TVNZ+ will offer live streaming and video-on-demand catch up and well as video-on-demand highlights and extra content. There will be the option to start events from the beginning, watch live and pause too.
Why can’t I ‘continue watching’ like I do on other TVNZ+ shows?
We don’t offer a ‘continue watching’ feature for sport streaming yet. We know getting back to the spot you left is important. We’ll be adding this feature soon.
Can I add sports I like to my list so I’m notified when there’s a new event?
Not yet, but this is something we’re looking at adding in the future. All our sport is available via the Sport hub, rather than individual sport pages which include an ‘add to list’ button. The Sport hub shows what sport is currently live and coming up. You can also access our sport schedule here - tvnz.co.nz/sport-schedule - which gives a two-week view of events, games and matches.
Why is my stream quality not sharp?
The live streams and replays available in the Sport hub are comparable to Spark Sport and Sky Sport Now. Our simulcast stream (of TVNZ 1, 2 and DUKE) and video-on-demand content, such as highlights, are slightly lower in quality. If the stream quality is important to you, we recommend you access streams via the Sport hub in the first instance.
What will happen if there is an issue with a live stream?
We’ve done a lot of testing to ensure our platform is as robust as possible. The TVNZ team will be monitoring streams, including through the night, and will fix it as quickly as possible if there is a technical issue.
Streaming sport has used up all my data…
Live streaming sport events can consume a large amount of data. We’re looking at options for turning off streaming on mobile data or capping the video quality to prevent large data usage. In the meantime, if you want to minimise mobile data use ensure you’re connected to Wi-Fi before watching.
